60's 70's Garage, Rock, Blues, Soul & Country

I live in College Station TX. I collect vinyl records starting back in the early 70's. I like many genres of music. Hooked on classic retro film. I listen mostly to music from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. See My Archive Favorites for a wealth of free music downloads. Previously all saved favorites were a simple text description until the new site makeover in 2015.

Florida punks Blast and the Detergents erupt from the swamplands once again with Brain Time Now, their 2nd full length album. 17 tracks of Lo-fi schizo garage punk and epic noisy rock n roll that brings to mind Richard Hell, Black Flag, Sonic Youth and The Nation of Ulysses. Epic riffs splattered in noisy feedback make this one a winner all around.   Buy the 12" Vinyl of Brain Time Now here: http://noclearrecords.blogspot.com/2012/02/brain-time-now-vinyl-lp.html

We start off the show with the hardest working man in show business, the king of soul, Mr. James Brown, followed by some funky music that’ll make you wanna party!  Give...

When I Came Home is a documentary which follows the lives and struggles of several homeless veterans, including those who have recently returned home from the war in Iraq. The film examines the factors which led over 150,000 Vietnam veterans from the battlefield to the street and asks the question: Will what happened to Vietnam veterans happen to a new generation of soldiers? The film also focuses on the veteran-led movement which is fighting to end this national disgrace. When I Came Home is a...

Many may have thought, that there won't be any further releases anymore, in return this release seems the more interesting. Gilesi over at the amazing music blog “Cosmic Minds at Play” once mused about the Duke City garage band scene in 1960s: “I have no idea what Albuquerque, New Mexico was like as a place to live in the mid 60s but it certainly seems to have had more than its fair share of top class garage bands, so I can only assume that there was a wild scene going on among its young denizens.” Countless semi-pro and professional bands drew inspiration by watching The Fab Four’s landmark appearance on...

Another exemplary compilation from Rhino Records. As I've mentioned before, nobody does it better. Audio quality, liner notes, track selection... it's the bees knees. Not everyone feels the same way about Rhino's efforts. The word cruisin' doesn't appear in the dictionary, but it's a familiar word to millions of people who did it. CRUISIN' THE FIFTIES AND SIXTIES, is a year-by-year recreation of pop music radio during the years 1955 through 1970. Each album is not just a collection of the top pop music of a particular year, but a total recreation by a top disk jockey (of that year) doing his original program over a major pop music station. That means actual commercials, promotional jingles, sound effects,...

All of the groups are included in the metadata for this page and so should hopefully draw in some folks who like this kinda thing. Having just recently picked up a vinyl copy of the sixth and final record with the original lineup of the band Bad Company , I knew it was time to devote a whole episode to this band I'm fond of. Enjoy an hour of my favorite cuts by members Paul Rodgers , Simon Kirke , Mick Ralphs , and Boz Burrell . Since I forgot to mention him in the show, a big shout out goes to Mel Collins , who played wind instruments on all of their records and was really the fifth member in a way.

It Came From the Garage - The Secret History of Rock's Finest Hour Rock and roll was born with two strikes against it, needing a shave and late for detention. It popped its cherry in 1955 and looked back with no regrets. One can't ascribe its fall from grace to any single event or set of circumstances. Rock couldn't lose what it lacked at conception. Mass-market nostalgia gets us hopped up for a past that never existed. Hagiography sanctifies shuck-and-jive DJs and producers and reinvents their...

A brand new rock'n'roll record is exactly what we all need to rock these rainy and boring autumn days, ain't it, folks? Get ready to shake your asses, then, 'cause this album is a real rock'n'roll assault, and you know what we mean. London sounds like Memphis, in these eleven tracks of great, amazingly old fashioned rockabilly and dirty, fuzzy garage rock, put together for what has become the beginning of our collaboration with Paul Worsley and Steve Partridge, AKA Electric Hambone. A...

Mike Bell leads this scuzzed out "garage" band into oblivion and back. Serious Baltimore rock and roll. Features members of The Platinum Slugs, Temple of Bon Matin, and the Dirt. 60's/70's Iggy influenced Blazed out Punk Rock. (-via MT6 Records )

Considered THE archetypal sensationalized anti-drug movie, but it's really an exploitation film made to capitalize on the hot taboo subject of marijuana use. Like many exploitation films of the time, "Reefer Madness" tried to make a quick buck off of a forbidden subject while skirting the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930. The Code forbade the portrayal of immoral acts like drug use. ( The illegal drug traffic must not be portrayed in such a way as to stimulate curiosity...

Keili presents Gringo Star! No, not the Beatle... The white guys from the south - "We are white stars, but white in a derogatory Mexican slang kinda way." Two brothers and two others, they take turns playing each instrument and singing lead. The result is a band with a variety of sounds and influences, from country to punk, churning out a garage-y sound that's hot.

Another beer soaked Garagey-Punk band from Cleveland, OH. Much of the music could be characterized as guitar-heavy, proto-punk without all the busy two-minute solos that seem to muddy the sound of their riffy-rock peers. Think Pagans meets Dead Boys cumming onto some Faces. Gunfireâs full-length debut, Songs For Trash, was engineered & produced by Ryan Foltz of Rancid/ Dropkick Murphyâs fame at Cleveland Audio Studios. The band is currently booking dates for venues large and small. Read...
